EMCOR Services MSI Honored For Mechanical Contracting Excellence

EMCOR Firm Receives First Place Eagle Award From Associated Builders and Contractors

ORLANDO, FL – October 24, 2011 – The Central Florida Chapter of the Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) recently honored EMCOR Services MSI – Mechanical Services, Inc. with its First Place Eagle Award as part of its 2011 Excellence in Construction awards competition. MSI was recognized in the HVAC, Institutional $1 - $5 million category for its work on the University of Central Florida Performing Arts Complex.

A leading mechanical contractor in Central and Southwest Florida, EMCOR Services MSI is a subsidiary of EMCOR Group, Inc. (NYSE: EME), a Fortune 500® leader in mechanical and electrical construction, energy infrastructure and facilities services for a diverse range of businesses.

MSI was responsible for coordination of the various building trades, a critical component of the project's success. The MSI team relied on Building Information Modeling (BIM) technology and processes to provide complete mechanical project coordination and conflict management before the first piece of air distribution equipment was fabricated at MSI's production center.

"The BIM process significantly enhanced the ability of the entire team to execute the project within schedule," Mr. Dillard explained. "We are extremely proud to have played a key role in creating a new performing arts and learning center that the University of Central Florida can utilize like a magnet to attract the nation's best students."

The University of Central Florida (UCF) Arts Complex includes a wide array of design elements that enhance the special needs of performing arts education. The heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and control systems serving the facility are configured to provide an environment that offers quiet comfort to the students and faculty.

"There are design elements that set performing arts facilities apart from traditional educational or commercial buildings," said William Dillard, Chief Executive Officer of MSI. "The HVAC systems must be flexible enough to accommodate a wide range of cooling and heating loads, and quiet enough so that they do not intrude upon the performances. Finally, they must be adaptable and remain invisible in the performing areas of the theaters so that the performances and surrounding themes are the center of attention."

To achieve UCF's goals, MSI installed large diameter ductwork and air distribution systems that achieve high-volume, low-velocity supply air delivery. To meet specified sound level requirements, most of the equipment was located outside of the practice rooms, which created extremely tight working conditions and required an extensive amount of coordination between the various building trades. The ductwork, manufactured in-house by MSI, was designed using double wall duct, vibration isolation and sound absorbing material at various locations within the system.
